10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not always exciting for many of us. But it needs to be done. As the winter come to an end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve hoarded over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of your home?
The outside of your house could likely use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your house in West Palm Beach, and, even more important, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save you a lot ofmoney over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time of year to clean your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris collect during the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest during the spring, making a mess in your gutters if they are not properly cleaned.

Plus, bugs and critters are looking for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows won’t cause you much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows are trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tough job, and it will require a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can pressure clean your home, patio furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem strange since you will just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washing company can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use during the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it during the winter when you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in rough condition the first time you step onto it in the spring.

Soap and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or algae, you may need to consider a more aggressive option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are typical home roof problems in West Palm Beach. While you are cleaning the outside of your house, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof too, but you will need to use a different method than what you use for most of your home’s exterior.

If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your home’s roof.

The best course of action for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and let it be. This mixture will kill any organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your house is probably what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will immediately improve your day, and it will probably motivate you to spend more time outdoors.

You can clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and think about painting it for a bright look! Clean overlooked areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You’ll be spending more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful opportunity to organize everything you will need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment should all have a specific place outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the outside of your house so much more during the time of year when you are going to spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a big impact on the overall look of your house.

Kill weeds near your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you might be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
